Vittorio Veneto is the town in the province of Treviso where the homonymous battle was fought during World War I. The victory of the Italian army over the Austro-Hungarians resulted in the Austrian surrender and the end of the war. The city of Vittorio Veneto was born on 27 September 1866, when the two municipalities, Cèneda and Serravalle, joined and took the name in homage to Vittorio Emanuele II, the first king of Italy.
